Transylvania is a historical region in central Romania. On the East and the South, it is bordered by the Carpathian Mountains and on the West by the Apuseni Mountains.

The beautiful scenery of the Carpathian Mountains, the amazing landscapes and rich cultural heritage of this part of the country, make this region a place with unforgettable tourist destinations and interesting cultural and social events.

Visiting Transylvania is worth it for everyone who is interested in history, culture, wellness and spa facilities, outdoor activities, who wants to learn about folk music, folk dance, old crafts and folk customs.

Transylvania is also associated with vampires. The novel entitled Dracula, written by Bram Stoker in 1897, the many subsequent books and films this book inspired played an important role in this association. This region of Romania is often associated with the land of Dracula, many foreign visitors come to Brasov and its surroundings to see the places related to Dracula.

Travelling through Transylvania one can come across the name of this region in other languages as well: in romanian Ardeal or Transilvania, in Hungarian it is Erdély, in German it is Siebenbürgen.

The most popular towns and cities worth visiting for their old buildings, historical atmosphere, entertainment facilities, rich cultural heritage are: Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Sighisoara, Targu-Mures, Sibiu, Sinaia, Bran, Alba Iulia, Predeal, Deva, Miercurea Ciuc, Odorheiu Secuiesc, Sfantu-Gheorghe and the list could be continued with smaller towns and villages which are exciting spots to visit.

Mures county is a tourist destination which offers a lot for the visitors: cultural, historical places, entertainment facilities, possibilities for wellness and spa, adventurous outdoor activities.

This county, as the whole Transylvania, is also loved by tourists because of the culinary delights. There are plenty of restaurants offering delicious local food. Since this region is populated by more ethnicities, its cuisine is inevitably multicultural and it reflects the rich and twisted past of Romania. Among the most popular dishes are the different soups, as part of everyday meals.

There is a wide range of soups made of all kinds of vegetables and meats, but one of the most popular soups is “ciorba”. Sarmale, that is stuffed cabbage leaves, mititei, which is grilled rolls of minced meat of different types and spices, zacusca which is an eggplant chutney are just a few from the long list of delicious foods of Transylvania.

Eating, cooking and serving good, fresh food for the visitors is part of the hospitality of Transylvanian people.
